Powertronix VEGA CSS series (Central Supply System) is designed according to EN 50171 standard and it is therefore a perfect solution for the setup in buildings subject to fire safety regulations and, in particular, for the supply of emergency lighting. But not only that, the CSS series from Powertronix is absolutely suitable for the supply of other emergency systems, such as automatic fire-fighting systems, alarm systems and emergency detection, smoke extraction equipment and carbon monoxide detection, and even specific systems of emergency in sensitive areas. The use of Central Supply Systems guarantees a significant reduction of setup and maintenance costs and at the same time it makes periodic checks simpler and faster.
Dual input
CSS series from Powertronix is equipped with a dual input on all models. This important feature makes it possible to easily and safely carry out, through an input switch, periodic and mandatory checks of system functionality and system autonomy by interrupting the power supply of the UPS without interrupting the bypass line, which can always power the load in the case of a bad outcome of the check.
High overloading capacity
As stated in the EN 50171 standard, CSS series from Powertronix is designed in order to sustain continuous overloadings (without time limits) of up to 120% of the machine rated power.
High charging current and safe battery system
Batteries management is essential to ensure the operation of the CSS during emergency situations. The SAFE BATTERY SYSTEM consists of functions and features that allow you to obtain the best performances from batteries and accumulators, to extend their operating life and to satisfy charging times imposed by the law. In fact, CSS series from Powertronix is designed in compliance with the EN 50171 standard and it can guarantee very high current made available to the batteries, thus allowing the recharge up to the 90% of the available autonomy in 8 hours.
CSS from Powertronix are suitable for use with hermetically sealed lead-acid (VRLA), AGM and GEL batteries and Open Vent and Nickel batteries. Different charging methods are available depending on the battery type. The recharge voltage compensation function based on temperature prevents excessive battery charges and overheating. The deep discharge protection prevents reduced battery performance and battery damage.
Models
The Powertronix CSS range is based on both single-phase and three-phase models, optimised to offer maximum runtimes in accordance with the parameters set out in standard EN 50171. All our models are based on transformer-less technology, thus favouring efficiency and size reduction. The transformer, that can guarantee the maximum protection of the load, is optional.
General features
Besides all the the features described above, Powertronix CSS series still retains performances, reliability and flexibility that are common to the UPS series it derives from. The CSS series is also compatible with all the major options and accessories.
In short

- High recharge current: reduced charging time
- Continuous overloading up to 120%: great reserve of power
- Casing compliant with the EN 60598-1 standard: high mechanic protection
- Batteries: expected life up to 10 years (EUROBAT)
Operating modes
Every Powertronix CSS model supports all the operating modes set out and described in standard EN50171, as below:
A: Changeover and output "AS" only mode
The load is supplied via the CSS bypass line (always supplied output “AS”). In the event of power supply failure the internal automatic device transfers the load to the inverter. The battery provides power to the inverter, ensuring the required runtime.
B: No interruptions and "AS" output only mode
The load is supplied constantly by the CSS inverter (always supplied output “AS”). In the event of power supply failure the battery provides power to the inverter, ensuring the required runtime with no interruptions at all.
C: Changeover and "EO" output only mode
The load is normally not supplied. In the event of a power supply failure the load is supplied by the inverter of the CSS for the required runtime.
D: No interruptions and "EO" output only mode
The load is normally not supplied. In the event of a power supply failure, the load is supplied by the inverter of the CSS for the required time. This mode is different from mode C because intervention times are shorter, but efficinecy is slightly lower.
E: Changeover and "AS+EO" output mode
A part of the load ("AS" output) is normally supplied via the bypass line of the CSS. In the event of a power supply failure, both "AS" and "EO" outputs are supplied by the inverter, thus supplying all the loads for the required time.
F: No interruptions and "AS+EO" output mode
A part of the load ("AS" output) is normally supplied by the inverter of the CSS. In the event of a power supply failure, both "AS" and "EO" outputs are supplied by the inverter, thus supplying all the loads for the required time.
